It is a beautifully wild, mountainous and ethnically diverse place. It is believed that the mythical area known as 'Shangri-La' exists in Yunnan. Until recently It was not so easy to visit this province as the mountain ranges form a barrier to communication with the rest of the world.
The area sits on a plateau 1900 meters above sea level and has a 'spring like' climate the whole year round. Covering an area of 394,000 sq km the province has a population of around 42 million. It is known in China as the 'beautiful clouds in the south'.
Yunnan is famous for it's natural beauty and boasts over 18,000 species of plants and a rain forest containing rare and endangered species. It's animal population includes rare endangered monkey's and Asian elephants.
It's just one of those magical places that one only wishes to visit at some point in one's life. As well as it's mountain ranges it has glaciers that are covered in snow all year round, amazing forests, hot springs, vast farmlands and blue skies with brilliant cloud patterns.
"So what about the Yunnan Tea?", you may ask. Well with such a fantastic environment Yunnan produces many fine teas. It certainly delivers the goods on that front. Some of the famous green teas of Yunnan include Black Needle, Yunnan Jasmine Pearls, Silver Threads and Green Toucha.
Black Needle has leaves which live up to their name; they are sharp to the touch! A very light tea picked in the Spring for a fresh flavor and full aroma.
