Maojian - Maojian Tea

Maojian tea is grown in both the Chinese provinces of Hunan and Zhejiang. The name literally translated means "hairy tips". Hunan province is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and has the Dongting Lake situated to it's north.

Hunan has a long tea growing history and was first featured in Chinese literature around 350 B.C.. The province is famous for being the birth place of Mao Zedong, who was born in the village of Shao Shan.

It is one of the most visited destinations by tourists in China. It covers anarea of 210,500 sq km and is known for its rich mineral resources. The population of Hunan is around 64 million. Like almost every other area I visited in China Hunan is known as "a land of fish and rice". Every local guide had the pleasureof informing you that the area was famous for pearls and "a land of fish andrice", just before he took you to the pearl shop that was!

Henan's Xinyang area has been famous for its high quality tea since the Tang dynasty. It's tea is now world famous and surely another tea in China's top ten. Thearea has a great tea growing climate with all the cloud and mist needed to produce good tea.

The leaves are quiet fine and produce a smooth flavor. This tea is produced byskillful hand rolling, which when combined with the correct temperature produces a fine, fresh and light green brew.

The picture below shows an organic Maojian, a top quality green tea from Hunan Province. The tea is a very light green with a smooth flavor.
