Maofeng - Mao Feng Tea

Huang Shan Maofeng - Chinese Mao Feng Green Tea

Maofeng or Mao Feng tea is mainly grown in the province of Anhui in China. This famous tea is grown in the beautiful setting of the Yellow Mountains which are also known as Huangshan. The mountains are famous for their hot springs and grotesque rock formations. Some of these rock formations have been given strange names such as, "Golden Cock Crowing towards the Heavenly Gate".

To give an example of just how big China is the province of Anhui has a population roughly the same as the UK; approximately 59 Million people live there. That's one hell of a lot of fine tea they need! The area enjoys an average temperature between 14 and 17 degrees and is best visited in Autumn and Spring.

The Yellow Mountains offer a perfect growing environment for this refreshing and mellow brew. The soils are fertile and the area gets a good combination of rain and sun. Huang Shan Maofeng is certainly one of the top ten teas in China.

This Huang Shan tea is one of small leaf with a fruity and nutty taste; a true classic.

Some Mao Feng tea is also grown in the province of Hunan. Hunan in South West Central China is famous for being the home of Chaiman Mao when he was a boy. It is a major tea growing area with both green and black teas being produced.

For a traditional taste of Hunan check out the picture of this Organic Baihao Maofeng with small and tender leaves which produce a very fresh brew and look completely different than the Haung Shan variety.
